Welcome to The Wildlife Society! Upcoming Meeting, Camping Trip & More

Jayne Bucholz - Sunday, August 23
Welcome Messages   Meetings   Upcoming and Reminders
Hi everyone!

Welcome to The Wildlife Society at Minnesota State University Moorhead! Whether you are a returning member, a new recruit, or someone who has recently expressed interest in joining, we are excited to have you involved this year.

What is The Wildlife Society?

The Wildlife Society (TWS) is an organization focused on wildlife conservation, management, education, and providing opportunities for students interested in careers involving wildlife and natural resources. Our student chapter is a great way to meet other people with similar interests, gain hands-on experience, learn more about wildlife and conservation careers, and get involved with projects and events outside of the classroom. (https://wildlife.org/)

If you have not officially joined our chapter yet, you can sign up through MSUM's Campus Groups page here:

Join The Wildlife Society:

We encourage anyone interested in wildlife, conservation, ecology, environmental science, natural resources, or just getting outside to join us!

Meet the TWS Officers

We also wanted to introduce this year's officers and faculty support:

Faculty Advisor: Chris Merkord
President: Chloe Loch
Vice President: Derek Friesen
Treasurer: August Wenzel
Secretary: Jayne Bucholz
Marketing: Dylan Johnson

We are looking forward to working together to make this a fun and active organization for everyone.

September Camping Trip

Many of you previously expressed interest in our camping trip on September 19-20, so we wanted to make sure it was on everyone's radar! We will be putting together more information about the trip, including the location, activities, transportation, food, and what you should bring.

If you indicated that you were interested, please keep an eye out for more information and sign-up sheets as we get closer to the date.

First Meeting – Wednesday, August 26

Our first official meeting will be on August 26!

This meeting will be a chance to meet other members, introduce the officers, talk about what we would like to accomplish this year, and start planning future events.

We would also love for everyone to bring ideas for events or activities that you would like to see TWS do this year. These can be wildlife-related, educational, conservation-focused, social, or just fun opportunities to get outside.

Some ideas from events we have done previously include:
  • Guest Speakers!
  • Hiking
  • Bird Walks
  • Game Nights
  • Bake Sales
  • Collaborations with other Organizations
  • And So Much More!
We are always open to new ideas, so don't feel like your suggestion has to fit into what we've done before!

Looking Ahead

Our goal this year is to provide a variety of opportunities for members to get involved, whether that means gaining field experience, learning about wildlife careers, participating in conservation activities, exploring the outdoors, or simply meeting other students who enjoy wildlife.

We hope to see both new and returning members at our first meeting on August 26th, and we're especially excited to hear what everyone would like to do this year.

If you have any questions, ideas, or suggestions before the meeting, feel free to reach out!

We look forward to seeing you all and having a great year with The Wildlife Society!

Best,
Jayne Bucholz
